Michael B. Jordan is bringing major heist energy to the screen as he takes on triple duty—starring, directing, and producing a bold new reboot of The Thomas Crown Affair.
Per The Hollywood Reporter, filming kicked off earlier this month in London. Jordan is reuniting with his Black Panther co-star Danai Gurira, who this time plays his trusted ally instead of an adversary. The cast also features heavy hitters like Oscar-winner Kenneth Branagh, Killers of the Flower Moon standout Lily Gladstone, and rising talent Taylor Russell, who steps into the role of a determined detective hot on the trail of Jordan’s art-obsessed billionaire.
If you’re not familiar with The Thomas Crown Affair legacy, think Ocean’s Eleven swagger meets a romantic game of cat and mouse. The original 1968 film starred Steve McQueen and Faye Dunaway, while the 1999 remake leaned into Pierce Brosnan’s charm opposite Rene Russo. Jordan’s reboot sticks to the high-stakes, globe-trotting art-heist core but moves most of the action to Europe.
Behind the camera, Jordan’s Outlier Society is teaming up with blockbuster producer Charles Roven (The Dark Knight trilogy). The latest script comes from Iron Man 3’s Drew Pearce, following earlier drafts by Wes Tooke and Justin Britt-Gibson. And in a cool nod to the franchise’s roots, the original 1968 screenwriter Alan Trustman is also on board as an executive producer.
Amazon MGM has locked in March 5, 2027, as the theatrical release date—giving Jordan ample time to polish every slick twist, stylish escape, and jaw-dropping double-cross. While details on Kenneth Branagh and Lily Gladstone’s characters are still under wraps, sources tell THR that Taylor Russell’s savvy detective will match wits—and maybe even spark some chemistry—with Jordan’s charming thief.
As for Danai Gurira, this marks a powerful reunion with Michael B. Jordan. After earning accolades for her role as Okoye in Black Panther—where she clashed with Jordan’s Killmonger—she’s since been fighting off zombies in The Walking Dead and gearing up to star in Apple TV+’s Matchbox alongside John Cena.
