A man was pulled from his car and shot by angry bystanders after he drove into a crowd in Los Angeles.
According to NBC, the incident happened in the early hours of July 19, when 29-year-old Fernando Ramirez slammed his car into a group of people outside the Vermont Hollywood nightclub. Seven were critically injured, and at least 23 others suffered injuries.
The LAPD reported that Ramirez appeared to deliberately drive into the crowd after being kicked out of the club for being intoxicated.
When officers arrived on the scene, they found Ramirez being beaten by bystanders and discovered he had also been shot.
Ramirez was arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon. However, since he’s currently hospitalized for his injuries, he hasn’t been booked into jail yet.
The LAPD described the shooter as a Hispanic male, around 5’9″, 180 pounds, bald, wearing a blue jersey, and possibly carrying a silver revolver.
Following the incident, the Vermont Hollywood nightclub issued a statement saying its staff is fully cooperating with law enforcement.
“We are working closely with law enforcement to ensure the person responsible for this horrific act is held fully accountable,” the venue shared on Instagram. “We also want to extend our sincere gratitude to the first responders for their swift and compassionate action in assisting those affected.”
