Ana Nogueira Tapped to Write New ‘Wonder Woman’ Movie Following ‘Supergirl’

A brand-new Wonder Woman film is officially in the pipeline, according to TheWrap.

On Monday, July 21, the outlet revealed that screenwriter Ana Nogueira has been brought on board to write the script. The announcement comes just over a month after DC Studios Co-CEO James Gunn confirmed a new Wonder Woman movie was in the works, alongside the already-revealed HBO Max series Paradise Island, which centers on Themyscira, Wonder Woman’s homeland. Gunn noted that while progress has been gradual, it’s steadily moving forward.

Gal Gadot was the last actress to wear the iconic armor, making her first appearance in 2017’s Wonder Woman. She later returned in Justice League (2017), Zack Snyder’s Justice League (2021), and Wonder Woman 1984 (2020), the latter of which received lackluster reviews.

Originally, director Patty Jenkins and Gadot were planning a third film set in present day. However, with James Gunn and Peter Safran now steering DC Studios, the decision was made to reboot the character and go in a fresh direction as part of DC’s new cinematic era.

Ana Nogueira, who also wrote the upcoming Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow—slated for a June 26, 2026 release—is taking on the Wonder Woman reboot next. Fans got their first glimpse of Milly Alcock as Supergirl, cousin to David Corenswet’s Superman, earlier this month in Superman.

So far, no director has been attached to the new Wonder Woman project, and casting details remain under wraps.

Aside from her writing credits, Nogueira has also appeared onscreen in The Vampire Diaries, The Blacklist, and Blue Bloods. She’s also reportedly involved in the development of a new Teen Titans film.
