Sean Kingston’s mother has been sentenced to five years in federal prison following her conviction in a $1 million fraud case.

Sean Kingston’s mother, Janice Turner, has been sentenced to five years in federal prison after she and her son were convicted on multiple fraud charges.

The sentencing took place on Wednesday in Florida, according to The Sun Sentinel. During the hearing, Turner reportedly addressed the judge with an apology and pleaded for “mercy.”

Back in April, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Florida announced that Turner and Kingston had been convicted of wire fraud and conspiracy to commit wire fraud. Prosecutors said the pair scammed over $1 million worth of luxury goods, including a bulletproof Cadillac Escalade, from high-end vendors.

At the time of their conviction, both faced potential maximum sentences of up to 20 years per count.

Sean Kingston is expected to be sentenced next month. Following Janice Turner’s sentencing, her attorney, Humberto Dominguez, expressed “mixed feelings” about the outcome.

“We won on some points and we obviously lost on other points, all of which will obviously be handled on appeal,” he told reporters, as shown in footage from WPLG Local 10. “Overall, the judge tried to do what was right, what was fair.”

Dominguez also referenced a letter Kingston had written to the judge, in which the “Beautiful Girls” singer described his mother as a “great mom” and a “loving, caring person.”

Back in November, Kingston described 2024 as a year filled with both “highs and lows.” Among the high points was a Grammy nod for Chris Brown’s 11:11 (Deluxe) album—Kingston was credited as a writer on “Sensational,” which received a nomination for Best African Music Performance.
