Jacquees is opening up about the now-infamous altercation with Trey Songz earlier this year in Dubai, calling it a major regret in his career and personal life.
In a candid interview with The Breakfast Club, the 30-year-old singer shared his perspective on the heated incident that momentarily strained his friendship with Songz.
A Night That Got Out of Hand
“I think the biggest mistake I ever made in my career was going on the internet talking about Trey Songz,” Jacquees admitted during the interview. “As a man and everything, that was the biggest mistake I ever made.”
Despite their friendship, tensions flared during a wild night in Dubai, leading to what Jacquees described as a situation where “n**s gotta hit sometimes.” He explained, “It was just one of them nights. That n*a got to tripping, in my opinion.”
Jacquees claimed he wasn’t drunk at the time and vividly remembers everything that happened, including throwing the first punch. To his surprise, Trey Songz, aka “Mr. Steal Your Girl,” put up a good fight, even pulling on Jacquees’ dreads during the scuffle.
The Fallout and Reconciliation
Following the altercation, Jacquees addressed the situation in a since-deleted Instagram post, where he called out Trey Songz and referenced a lawsuit involving the “Say Aah” singer. The post added fuel to the fire, but the two eventually reconciled after “weeks” of phone arguments.
“Yesterday he called me like, ‘Bro, I love you, man. I’m proud of you,’” Jacquees said, sharing that Songz reached out to congratulate him on the premiere of his documentary. The two even joked about Jacquees’ dreads, with Trey teasing him about their appearance.
A Bond That Endures
Jacquees emphasized that, despite their fight, he and Trey Songz remain close. “I can say whatever about this n***a, but if you start saying something, then it’s gonna be up with you,” he said, making it clear he still has his friend’s back.
Reflecting on their relationship, Jacquees said, “I’ve known them boys for so long. I can’t look at Trey and say, ‘I don’t f*** with him.’ I’m not going to let someone else talk bad about him. That’s just how I am.”
Lessons Learned
Looking back, Jacquees sees the incident as a valuable lesson about handling conflicts privately and maintaining loyalty. “It’s all love at the end of the day,” he concluded.
