Ray J Shuts Down Rumors About Whitney Houston’s Death: ‘Cap… That’s Not My Truth’

Ray J is shutting down long-standing rumors that he was involved in Whitney Houston’s tragic death back in 2012.

At the time, Ray J and Houston were frequently spotted together following her 2007 divorce from Bobby Brown. But during the July 25 episode of Cam Newton’s Funky Friday podcast, the “One Wish” singer once again made it clear he was not with her when she passed away at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. Houston’s death was ruled an accidental drowning, compounded by heart disease and cocaine use.

Around the 43-minute mark of the interview, Ray J expressed his deep “love” for Houston, saying he was with the six-time Grammy winner “every fucking day.”

“She was one of the most important people to me,” he said. “N***as is saying that I was in the room when she died. Bro, that’s the biggest cap I’ve ever heard.”

Ray J revealed that he’s been hearing the rumors “since the beginning,” but never felt the need to respond because they were false. “I didn’t care about what people were saying at first,” he admitted.

The singer went on to share that people still harass him in his Instagram comments and during his live sessions, accusing him of “killing” Whitney Houston.

“It’s not my truth,” Ray J said. “It’s just certain times when narratives are going to the moon. That’s not true. You have to go and you have to shut certain things down, right? The way they made that seem is so haunting to me.”

He clarified that he was “nowhere” near Houston when she passed away, explaining that he was in San Diego performing at the time.

“The Clive Davis event was the next day. We were going to go there together and we were going to make the announcement that we were [dating],” he said.

“Whitney was my people, bro. … I barely speak on Whitney. She’s Whitney Houston. Yes, that’s Whitney Houston, but she’s Whitney to me,” Ray J added. “To me it’s just so distasteful for somebody to have to tell somebody something that the other person can’t respond to.”

Because he believed speaking on Houston’s behalf was “unfair,” Ray J said he “never said nothing.”

Just last month, while streaming on Twitch, Ray J called the rumors “out of control” and “disrespectful,” admitting that he “let a story build” for years without shutting it down early on.
