Kelley Mack, best known for her role as Addy on The Walking Dead, has passed away at the age of 33.
Her family confirmed to The New York Times that the actress died from “an aggressive tumor that attacked her central nervous system.” She passed away in Cincinnati, Ohio, over the weekend, with her loved ones sharing the heartbreaking news on August 5.
Earlier this year, in January, Mack revealed that she had been diagnosed with an astrocytoma—a type of cancerous tumor that develops in the brain or spinal cord, also known as diffuse midline glioma. The Mayo Clinic explains that astrocytomas begin in star-shaped cells called astrocytes, which support and connect nerve cells. The exact cause of these tumors is still largely unknown.
Her passing was also announced through a statement posted on her Instagram page.
“It is with indelible sadness that we are announcing the passing of our dear Kelley. Such a bright, fervent light has transitioned to the beyond, where we all eventually must go,” read the emotional message shared on Mack’s Instagram page.
“Kelley passed peacefully on Saturday evening with her loving mother Kristen and steadfast aunt Karen present. Kelley has already come to many of her loved ones in the form of various butterflies. She will be missed by so many to depths that words cannot express.”
Tributes quickly began pouring in, especially from The Walking Dead family. Cast and crew members shared heartfelt messages, remembering Kelley Mack for her warmth, talent, and the light she brought to everyone around her.
“What an incredible human. So proud to have fought alongside her in our final episode together,” wrote actress Alanna Masterson. Gustavo Gomez added, “This is heartbreaking. I feel so lucky that our paths crossed. Your bright light will always shine on.” Director Michael E. Satrazemis also honored her memory, calling Mack “a bright light on every level” and sending love to all who cared for her.
