Hollywood Unlocked founder Jason Lee’s company, Healthcare Unlocked, is taking legal action against a former partner over alleged fraud and misconduct.
On Tuesday (August 5), Lee filed a lawsuit in the Superior Court of Los Angeles against Enhance Health, seeking damages for breach of contract, misrepresentation, fraud, and unfair business practices.
Healthcare Unlocked, launched in 2023 as a joint venture to expand health care access for underserved Americans, claims it partnered with Enhance in June 2023. According to court documents obtained by Complex, Enhance allegedly agreed to deliver services in exchange for $9 per member monthly, which covered platform security, maintaining HU’s book of business, and providing detailed client information.
“At all relevant times, Healthcare Unlocked maintained a substantial book of business consisting of roughly 10,659 health insurance members, representing millions of dollars in annual healthcare coverage for families and individuals in multiple states,” the filing states.
HU now alleges that Enhance carried out a “coordinated scheme” to steal 10,000 of those members, leaving “thousands of families vulnerable during critical enrollment periods.”
The suit also accuses Enhance of setting up a “two-tiered system” — forcing HU to operate on an inferior platform while competitor JetMedia enjoyed access to a superior one. HU claims this created “an unlevel playing field that violated antitrust principles and destroyed fair competition.”
According to the filing, this “gross negligence” resulted in $6.3 million in business losses. The company is seeking at least $10 million in compensatory damages, restitution, and attorneys’ fees.
HU officially launched with Enhance Health in November 2023, aiming to help clients “navigate the open enrollment process” safely.
