Sean Kingston Appeals Three-Year Prison Sentence in Fraud Case

Sean Kingston is moving to challenge his prison sentence less than two weeks after his conviction.

According to court documents obtained by Complex, the 35-year-old singer, born Kisean Paul Anderson, filed a notice of appeal on Thursday (Aug. 28) with the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.

Filed through his attorney, Zeljka Bozanic, the appeal disputes the final judgment and sentence handed down on Aug. 15, as well as all pretrial and trial rulings.

Kingston was convicted earlier this year of wire fraud, securities fraud, and aggravated identity theft after prosecutors accused him of orchestrating a scheme to acquire luxury goods—including jewelry and cars—by misrepresenting his finances and using forged documents.

The court found he defrauded vendors out of millions of dollars. Along with prison time, he was ordered to pay restitution, though details remain sealed in some filings.

Kingston, who broke out in 2007 with “Beautiful Girls” and later scored hits like “Fire Burning,” has long dealt with civil lawsuits over unpaid debts and luxury purchases—issues that eventually escalated into the federal case.

Earlier this month, he was sentenced to three and a half years in prison. His mother, Janice Turner, was also convicted of wire fraud and received a five-year sentence.
