Nicki Minaj is trying to figure out the secret behind NBA YoungBoy’s massive fan loyalty.
Hopping on Instagram Live, Minaj turned the question to her viewers: “What is it about NBA YoungBoy that was able to garner that level of hardcore, diehard, unwavering support?” she asked. “That’s without getting help from a lot of the mainstream outlets — let’s just call a thing and thing.”
Nicki Minaj drew a parallel between NBA YoungBoy’s fanbase and her own loyal Barbs, noting how fiercely they ride for him.
“You know how my fans act with me and it feels more like a family, a camaraderie,” she explained. “They don’t play about me and I don’t play about them — and people are always trying to figure it out.”
She then started reading fan responses to her question about what makes YoungBoy’s support so intense. One viewer wrote, “His raw personality. You can visualize anything that he’s saying and, just like you, he never gets his flowers,” which made Minaj respond with an “aww.”
Another added, “The more haters he gets, the stronger their love gets — kind of like us with you,” to which Minaj replied, “bingo.”
Minaj and YoungBoy have teamed up three times so far, most recently on “WTF” from his 2023 album Don’t Try This at Home.
Back in 2022, Minaj also opened up about her experience working with him on “What That Speed Bout,” praising his energy. “YoungBoy was rlly dope,” she wrote on X. “Chill. Laid back. Sweet. rlly fuk wit his vibe. Didn’t do the most on set, more mature than I thought he’d be. He was on gangsta time.”
