Zohran Mamdani, the Democratic nominee for New York City mayor, is catching heat after being accused of backing a so-called “pro-terrorist” rap group, The Diplomats, in what many see as a hit piece.
In the report by Jerry Dunleavy, chief investigative correspondent at JusttheNews.com, Mamdani was singled out for repeatedly posting the same photo of Juelz Santana rocking an American flag outfit from the “Dipset Anthem” video. According to the piece, he shared it with the caption “Happy 4th” on three separate Independence Days over the past five years.
The article labels Dipset as a “controversial rap group,” notorious for dropping “pro-terrorism-tinged lyrics.”
That claim traces back to their heavy 9/11 references, especially on their debut album Diplomatic Immunity, released less than two years after the attacks. The group even adopted names like “the Dipset Taliban” and “Harlem’s Al Qaeda.”
Those references resurfaced online just last year, reigniting conversations about the crew’s fixation.
Still, despite the article’s attempt to smear Mamdani over his love for Juelz and Dipset, the response from people seemed to flip the script—sparking more support than backlash.
In July, Zohran Mamdani popped up at Madison Square Garden, joining Wu-Tang Clan, Run The Jewels, and the LOX for Wu-Tang’s final NYC show.
Just a month earlier, 50 Cent had taken aim at him on Instagram, offering $258,750 for Mamdani to pack up and leave New York. “Where did he come from whose friend is this? I’m not feeling this plan no,” 50 wrote. “I will give him $258,750 and a first class one way ticket away from NY. I’m telling Trump what he said too!”
