Earlier this month, human remains were discovered in a Tesla registered to D4vd, sparking an LAPD death investigation.
Since then, disturbing new details have surfaced about the state of the body and the identity of the victim. Meanwhile, D4vd—real name David Anthony Burke—has remained on tour promoting his latest album, Withered. He’s been performing across North America since early August, with the run scheduled to wrap in Los Angeles on Sept. 20. Whether the tour will proceed beyond that is still uncertain.
So far, here’s what we know about the case:
Human remains found in Tesla linked to D4vd
“On 9/8/25 around 12:20 pm, officers responded to the 1000 block of Mansfield Avenue for a foul odor coming from a vehicle at a tow yard,” an LAPD spokesperson told Complex. “Detectives responded and located possible human remains. It is currently a death investigation.”
Although police initially withheld details about the vehicle’s owner, reports later confirmed the Tesla was registered to the Withered singer.
At this point, D4vd is said to be “fully cooperating” with investigators. Authorities have not named any suspects.
Body in Tesla Registered to D4vd Noted With “Shhh” Finger Tattoo
In the first statement about the discovery, the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s office revealed that the body—reported by multiple outlets to have been dismembered—had a tattoo on the right index finger reading “Shhh.”
“The decedent was found severely decomposed inside a vehicle on 9/8/2025,” the statement read. “She appears to have been deceased inside the vehicle for an extended period of time before being found. We are unable to determine her age or race/ethnicity. The decedent was wearing a tube top and black leggings (size small). She has wavy black hair. Jewelry includes yellow metal stud earring and yellow metal chain bracelet.”
Victim Identified as 15-Year-Old Celeste Rivas
Days later, the Medical Examiner identified the victim as 15-year-old Celeste Rivas, with a listed date of death of Sept. 8. According to TMZ, Rivas had been missing for more than a year. Her mother also told the outlet that her daughter had a boyfriend named David.
Tattoo Connection Between D4vd and Victim
Following the report of the “Shhh” tattoo on Rivas’ finger, TMZ noted that D4vd also has the same tattoo on his right index finger.
Has D4vd Responded?
So far, the singer himself has not spoken publicly. In a statement to KNBC, a rep confirmed he was made aware of the investigation and added, “Although he is still out on tour, he is fully cooperating with the authorities.”
