Steve Harvey Admits He Regrets Firing Back at Katt Williams: ‘We’re Not Even in the Same League’

Steve Harvey says he wishes he had never clapped back at Katt Williams’ comments from last year’s Club Shay Shay episode.

During his sit-down with Shannon Sharpe, Williams went on a rant accusing several comedians of being unfunny and stealing material. He singled out Harvey, mocking him as “Mr. Potato Head” and claiming he ripped off the concept of his ’90s sitcom from Mark Curry’s Hangin’ With Mr. Cooper. Williams also said Harvey could never be a movie star and accused him of “hating on” the late Bernie Mac.

Harvey later fired back at Williams at Invest Fest, calling him “petty” and a “punk-ass” while on the Earn Your Leisure panel.

“I just don’t have the quickness I had, but I can still turn my hip and shift that weight, and I’d knock yo’ short ass out,” he joked at the event. “I’d shoot yo’ perm straight out yo’ head.”

Harvey acknowledged the comments were aimed at Williams during Tuesday (September 16)’s episode of The Pivot Podcast. Around the 42-minute mark he said he was “just joking” at Invest Fest and went on to explain what he’d tell Williams if they ever crossed paths.

“If I had a chance to talk to Katt about anything, I would just ask him what’s wrong,” Harvey said. “Let’s go to that. Listen to me, man. Just because a person sits on the show and don’t hesitate or say ‘um’ or ‘ah’ and speaks eloquently, that don’t mean it’s true.”

He went on to admit that firing back wasn’t his best move. “I probably shouldn’t have said anything,” Harvey continued. “We not in the same league, dog. We shooting at two different baskets. I shouldn’t even have said nothing. And so really, man, I think I would apologize to him if he took offense to what I said. I was joking, but I would apologize to him.”

Harvey also told fans to look at the bigger picture of his interview, insisting it wasn’t rooted in bitterness. “And hate and jealousy is a form of grief. You’re grieving because obviously all them people you talking about have something you either want or are something that you ain’t, and you’re grieving and the funeral becomes the podcast,” he explained.

The veteran host previously touched on his rocky history with Williams during a July episode of The George Janko Show, where he claimed Williams once vowed to “destroy” him following a misunderstanding over a gig.
