Cardi B’s Am I the Drama? Snags Platinum Certification Just Days After Release

Cardi B’s sophomore album Am I the Drama? wasted no time hitting a major milestone — it’s already platinum.

The RIAA confirmed the certification on Friday (Sept. 19), just one day after the project dropped. The honor comes courtesy of the massive success of Cardi’s earlier chart-toppers “WAP” with Megan Thee Stallion (nine-times platinum) and “Up” (five-times platinum), both of which reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and are included on the album.

Interestingly, several of Cardi’s other recent releases didn’t make the cut for the tracklist, including “Enough (Miami),” “Like What (Freestyle),” “Bongos” with Megan Thee Stallion, “Toot It Up” with Pardison Fontaine, and “On Dat Money” with Rob49.

While the platinum plaque is a major win, it won’t give Cardi B a boost on the charts.

Because “WAP” and “Up” dropped outside of Am I the Drama?’s release window, their streams won’t count toward the album’s first-week Billboard 200 tally. Cardi acknowledged this herself back in June on X, explaining why she chose to include them anyway.

“I let haters make me not submit WAP for the Grammys and at this point I’m giving my fans what they want!” she wrote, calling the two No. 1 smashes her “biggest songs” that “deserve a home” on her sophomore album.

This isn’t Cardi B’s first time rewriting the RIAA record books. Her debut Invasion of Privacy became the first female rap album in history with every single track certified platinum or higher — a feat that cemented her as a chart powerhouse right out the gate.
