Max Ehrich, the actor and singer formerly engaged to Demi Lovato, is speaking candidly about his recent hardships, expressing deep gratitude for simply being alive after a difficult period.
In a statement shared exclusively through his collaborators, Desi Child and Patheja Entertainment, Ehrich reflected on the challenges he’s faced and the journey that brought him here.
“This recent experience was one that I don’t have many words for,” Ehrich said exclusively. “I want to thank everyone who prayed for my safety. I’m so lucky and grateful to be alive after being kidnapped and drugged. I feel in my heart that I want to spread love through music — it’s the only thing that got me through jail and now rehab. I sang for hours, lifted people’s spirits, and I hope my music can do the same for others.”
TMZ reports the 33-year-old actor was arrested earlier this week in Florida following a physical altercation with his mother. Police said the incident occurred while Ehrich was under the influence of nitrous oxide, which he admitted to using days before his arrest.
He was booked on a domestic violence charge and later placed under a psychiatric hold under Florida’s Baker Act.
In his statement, Ehrich said the experience changed his outlook on life, crediting music as his refuge and source of healing.
“‘Learning 2 Love’ is such a deeply personal song to me,” Ehrich shared, referring to a track he wrote in Nashville. “It’s about dropping your guard and allowing yourself to be vulnerable. I used to be afraid to open up like this, but after everything that’s happened, I want to tell my story through music. I wrote it with my friends in Nashville — the purest souls. Love you all. God bless.”
According to TMZ, Ehrich said he had been in Los Angeles just days before his arrest when he was allegedly kidnapped by three gang members.
He claimed the group introduced him to nitrous oxide, which he continued to abuse for nearly a week before heading to Florida to stay with his parents. When his mother tried to intervene and get him to stop, the situation turned violent.
The police report alleges Ehrich chased his mother into a neighbor’s yard, pushed her to the ground, and kicked her in the thigh. Though she wasn’t seriously injured, officers noted she told them her son “heavily abuses inhalants” and had been using nitrous right before the incident.
Authorities added that Ehrich was still huffing the substance while livestreaming on social media — and even as police arrived at the scene.
Now, Ehrich says his focus is on recovery and healing. He told TMZ he plans to remain in treatment for at least 30 days once his psychiatric hold ends.

Ehrich also revealed that “Learning 2 Love” will drop on all streaming platforms later tonight, October 10, and shared the exclusive cover art for the single.
