Max Ehrich has found himself back in the spotlight — and not just for his music. The 34-year-old actor and singer, who was previously engaged to Demi Lovato, was arrested in Florida and later released on bond.
According to reports, Ehrich was taken into custody on October 8 and booked at St. Lucie County Jail on a charge of battery involving a person over the age of 65. He was released that same day after posting a $1,000 bond and was also placed under Florida’s Baker Act, which permits temporary involuntary psychiatric evaluation.
Just days after his arrest, Max Ehrich revealed to fans that he was entering rehab. In a message shared on Instagram, he wrote, “I am so sorry you all had to watch me fall from grace. All thoughts and prayers are appreciated.”
The actor also made shocking claims that he had been kidnapped and forced to take drugs, warning his followers not to share their locations online and to be cautious about dangerous substances.
Soon after, his mother, Rhona Ehrich, publicly addressed the situation, dismissing reports that her son had attacked her as “completely fabricated.”
“A short video clip of an altercation that is being exaggerated for clickbait does not discern the truth of what did and didn’t happen,” she said. Rhona also backed her son’s kidnapping claims, saying she had witnessed “substance abuse take over his entire daily life because he was kidnapped and forced to do drugs with a group of bad characters.” She confirmed that he’s now getting treatment, adding, “A mother knows who their son is and isn’t.”
Amid the controversy, Ehrich dropped his new single, “Prisoner,” which he described as a personal reflection of growth and self-discovery. “As I continue to grow internally and externally in rehab, I am eternally grateful to share my new song ‘PRISONER,’” he wrote. “I have had a life under a microscope and been praised, but then judged countless times. I am not a prisoner of society, false narratives, false headlines, but most importantly my own limiting beliefs.”
Ehrich says the song represents a fresh start — and “just the beginning” of his new chapter.
