Kid Cudi jumped on the TikTok wave for his 2008 hit “Maui Wowie,” joining the viral trend to celebrate the track’s revival.
In his post, the rapper is seen hanging from a street sign while lip-syncing along to the fan-favorite song. In the caption, he showed love to his supporters for bringing new life to the classic.
“Thank u to everyone for posting my song and havin fun and showing love!!!” Cudi wrote. “17 years old and timeless.”

The “Maui Wowie” trend traces back to TikTok user @aaronxbrownn, who on Sept. 5 posted a clip of himself hanging from a crosswalk sign while lip-syncing the lyrics, “Goin’ back to Honolulu just to get that/That Maui Wowie, that Maui Wowie.”
Soon after, more creators followed his lead, turning it into a full-blown cultural moment. The song’s resurgence on TikTok even pushed it back onto the charts—on Oct. 7, “Maui Wowie” landed at No. 98 on Spotify’s daily songs chart, jumping 22 spots with 390,000 streams in a single day.
The renewed love for Cudi’s music comes shortly after he told fans he was ready to “step into the shadows” to chase his “other dreams” beyond music.
In September, he dropped “Once” on SoundCloud as a parting gift of sorts, calling it a “goodbye for now song.”
“It was produced by myself with my homie Sebastian addin’ extra sauce here and there. Taking a break but wanted to leave u [with] something special and from the heart. [You’ll] be hearing me featured on my friends’ albums but as far as me, I gotta step into the shadows and focus on my other dreams,” Cudi wrote.
Earlier that same month, he hinted on X that he planned to take a “step back” from making albums to concentrate on acting, directing, fashion, and painting.
