Tracy Morgan revealed he’d “give it all back” for his late friend and fellow comedian Jimmy McNair, who tragically lost his life in the 2014 car crash that nearly claimed Morgan’s as well.
When asked about people who believe “life is good” for him after reportedly receiving millions from Walmart in an out-of-court settlement, Morgan’s thoughts went straight to McNair. “I’d give it all back, if I get my friend back,” he told Nate Burleson on CBS Mornings. “And I wouldn’t blink.”
Fighting back tears, he continued, “Miss you, Jim. I’d give it all back if I could get him back. But that’s not gonna happen, so I gotta live on.”
Back in June 2014, Morgan and McNair were passengers in a limousine that was struck by a Walmart tractor-trailer. The Saturday Night Live alum suffered multiple injuries, including facial fractures, a broken femur, and severe brain trauma, leaving him in a coma for two weeks.
“There are days where I don’t physically feel well,” he admitted. “You gotta understand what I’ve been through. I was hit by a truck going 75 miles per hour with 85,000 pounds of frozen food in the back.”
Despite the pain, Morgan said he forgave the Walmart driver who nearly ended his life “as soon as I came out the coma,” explaining that without forgiveness, “I wouldn’t be able to move forward.”
Even years later, Morgan continues to honor McNair’s memory. Five years after the tragic accident, he shared a touching tribute to his late friend, ensuring his legacy lives on.
In 2023, Morgan paid tribute to McNair once again, keeping his friend’s memory alive.
