Common is once again opening up about the moment Fat Joe saved his life.
During a new episode of Joe and Jada, the rapper recalled how Fat Joe stepped in during his heated feud with Ice Cube and Mack 10.
Common explained that he was on the West Coast shooting a commercial when a friend from Chicago unexpectedly reignited an old conflict that had already been settled.
“I was out on the West Coast with my guy—one of my guys I knew through one of my close homies, but he was my guy—and he just wasn’t happy with the whole situation, the whole Ice Cube, Mack 10 beef that we had,” Common said around the five-minute mark of the episode.
Although Common tried to assure his friend that the beef was over, the situation quickly escalated.
“It’s not ’cause Fat Joe is tougher than anybody, I literally begged for your life,” Joe said. “I literally got in the middle, and was like, ‘He’s my friend. He’s my brother.'”
Joe’s intervention worked—defusing the tension and putting an end to the conflict.
While Common admitted he didn’t know exactly how Joe managed to smooth things over, he made it clear who deserved the credit for saving his life.
He previously shared the story in a 2021 interview on Hot 97, recalling how one of his friends had started staring down Mack 10. Things nearly took a dangerous turn when one of Mack 10’s associates left with the intention of coming back to retaliate. But Fat Joe stepped in, warning, “Your man gotta go. He gotta leave. He can’t stay,” adding that things were about to “get real.”
“Fat Joe saved my life,” Common said.
