Sophie Rain is stepping up to support those hit hardest as millions of Americans face financial challenges from the ongoing federal government shutdown.
In a touching video shared on X (formerly Twitter), Rain revealed she’s personally sending money and covering grocery costs for families affected by the suspension of SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits. The post quickly went viral, placing Rain among a wave of influencers using their platforms to make a real-world impact.
“With the government shutdown still being in effect, I realize that there are still a lot of families struggling out there, especially with the SNAP funding being paused,” Rain said in her video. “I used to live off food stamps, so I get it. I’ve been there before. I’m so grateful for how far I’ve come, and it’s only because of you guys. So I want to use my privilege to give back.”
Alongside the video, Rain tweeted: “I am giving out money to help those in need this week during the government shutdown. If you or anyone you know needs assistance this week, please drop any payment method below so I can lend a helping hand.”
Rain went on to say that she plans to spend the week covering grocery bills for families in need, choosing recipients from those who share their payment details through Cash App, Venmo, or PayPal.
“I’m hoping this inspires other creators to step up,” she said. “We are in a position to make a change.”
Her gesture comes as the ongoing federal shutdown continues to leave countless households without access to vital programs like SNAP. Advocates have cautioned that millions could face food insecurity if the funding freeze persists.
