Lionel Richie has reportedly been hospitalized for the second time while on his current tour with Earth, Wind & Fire.
According to TMZ, a source close to the 77-year-old singer-songwriter said Richie checked himself into a hospital after performing at The Muny in Forest Park, St. Louis, on Saturday, Aug. 29. The source claimed he sought medical attention as a precaution and was placed in intensive care.
Doctors have reportedly been checking whether dehydration may be the cause, and Richie is expected to be discharged on Tuesday, Sept. 1. Attendees at the St. Louis show also said the singer performed his final song of the night, “All Night Long,” while seated in a chair.
This follows another health scare in June, when Richie was taken to a hospital after being forced to cut short a performance at the Grand Casino Arena in St. Paul, Minnesota.
“When you’re feeling dizzy, sit your ass down,” he told the audience. “That’s the first time in my career I’ve sat during ‘Dancing on the Ceiling’… not good, not good.”
Shortly after leaving the stage, Richie’s saxophonist, Dino Soldo, told the audience that the singer was “not feeling well.”
A month later, Richie returned to the stage and reassured fans that he was recovering.
“Thank you for every message, every kind word, and for all your love,” Richie wrote in an Instagram update. “I’m doing well, and I’m grateful for all of you.”
