Nicki Minaj is speaking up after a wave of political conversations unexpectedly pulled her into the global human rights spotlight.
On Sunday, the rapper reacted to Ambassador Mike Waltz’s praise following reports that the two are set to address the persecution of Christians in Nigeria later this week.
In a post on X, Waltz hailed Minaj as “not only arguably the greatest female recording artist, but also a principled individual who refuses to remain silent in the face of injustice.” His message came in response to a tweet confirming that he and Minaj will speak on the issue in the coming days.
“Ambassador, I am so grateful to be entrusted with an opportunity of this magnitude,” Minaj wrote back on X. “I do not take it for granted. It means more than you know. The Barbz & I will never stand down in the face of injustice. We’ve been given our influence by God. There must be a bigger purpose.”
Earlier in the day, journalist Eric Cortellessa revealed that Waltz and Minaj are set to deliver joint remarks early this week on the persecution of Christians in Nigeria. The partnership was reportedly organized by Trump adviser Alex Bruesewitz, who is also slated to speak at the event.
The upcoming appearance comes on the heels of Minaj’s recent show of support for Trump after he announced his intention to add Nigeria to the State Department’s “Countries of Particular Concern” list, citing reports of anti-Christian violence.
“Christianity is facing an existential threat in Nigeria,” Trump said on Halloween, claiming that “thousands” of Christians were being killed by “radical Islamists.” The Nigerian government pushed back on the accusations, while experts noted that Trump’s remarks oversimplify a conflict shaped by political, ethnic, and economic tensions rather than religion alone.
Minaj thanked Trump at the time, saying she felt a “deep sense of gratitude” after reading his message.
“We live in a country where we can freely worship God. No group should ever be persecuted for practicing their religion,” she wrote, adding that people don’t have to share the same beliefs to treat one another with respect. She also called on fans to pray for persecuted Christians around the world.
Shortly after, Minaj responded to a Muslim fan, emphasizing that “faith should unite, not divide us,” and pointing out that “there are extremists in every religion.” She also sent love to her Muslim supporters.
