Kehlani Says She Has Full Custody of Her Daughter and No Contact With the Child’s Father

Kehlani gave an update on their custody situation with ex Javaughn Young-White during an appearance on The Breakfast Club.

“I have full custody,” Kehlani told Jess Hilarious when asked about where things stand legally. And when the question came up about whether they’re still in contact with Young-White, the singer responded with a simple, “No.”

The two were locked in a very public custody battle last year, during which Young-White released a statement urging TMZ to retract and apologize for an article claiming he believed Kehlani was involved in a cult.

“The TMZ article sensationalized aspects of what was said while simultaneously breaching my confidentiality,” his statement read. “Further, the filing of my case was incomplete and did not have my authorization by error of counsel. I am no longer represented by the aforementioned counsel. There will be an amended filing soon which will illustrate the full range of my concern.”

Young-White added that he never intended to paint “an unfair image” of Kehlani while seeking sole custody of their daughter.

Kehlani called his allegations “incredibly hurtful, inaccurate, inappropriate, and simply untrue.”

Reflecting on the ordeal, Kehlani said they were following their lawyer’s direction throughout the process. But seeing their daughter’s photo or name attached to those accusations was particularly painful.

“I can bear anything attached to my name. It might hurt. I might throw a little bit of a fit about it, but I’m an adult. I can bear that,” Kehlani explained. “When you see your child’s name attached to these things, your child’s photo next to certain words and certain verbiage, that’s a bit of a heartbreaker.”

For Kehlani, what made the entire ordeal feel so “treacherous” was how personal issues spilled into the public eye. They expressed similar frustration when denying accusations of inappropriate behavior with their daughter, stemming from what they described as a “lighthearted conversation” with Young-White about a past life reading.

“I’ve been silent, I’ve taken the public beating,” they wrote. “I’ve been addressing all of these things where I should, in COURT. I’ve sat there and watched the public only have access to ONE SIDE of things. But THIS is where I absolutely draw the line.”

As for the cult allegations, Kehlani described the situation as “tough.”

“Ultimately, the claims were false. It wasn’t true. He backtracked a lot,” they said.

The conversation begins at the 32-minute mark.
