IShowSpeed is wrapping up his viral Africa tour with a surprising honor: Ghanaian citizenship.
The popular streamer recently completed a month-long, livestreamed trip across Africa, taking millions of viewers along as he immersed himself in different cultures across nearly 20 countries.
As the tour came to a close, Ghanaian officials confirmed that a passport had been approved for the 21-year-old creator.
Ghana’s Foreign Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, announced the news on Facebook, applauding Speed for showcasing Ghana and Africa to a worldwide audience.
Ablakwa explained that the approval came after verification of Speed’s personal connection to the country, which the streamer mentioned during a livestream in Ghana when he shared that his mother is Ghanaian.
“I am pleased to inform you and our compatriots that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has approved the issuance of a Ghanaian Passport to IShowSpeed. Keep making our great nation Ghana, and our beloved African continent proud,” Ablakwa said.
Ghana has continued efforts to reconnect with people of African descent around the world. In 2024, the country granted citizenship to hundreds from the diaspora, including high-profile names like legendary singer Stevie Wonder.
While in Ghana, Speed leaned fully into the culture, taking part in a traditional naming ceremony in the eastern region and even receiving a massage from 10 Ghanaian women.
Over the course of his 28-day journey, Speed visited Nigeria, South Africa, Morocco, the Ivory Coast, and several other countries. Along the way, he raced a cheetah and danced with members of the Maasai community.
The tour also marked big personal moments for the streamer. He celebrated his 21st birthday in Lagos with fans surprising him live on stream and saw continued growth of his already massive platform, which now boasts more than 50 million YouTube subscribers.
