“N***a What, N***a Who (Originator 99)” originally appeared on Jay-Z’s Vol.2… Hard Knock Life, and now it’s getting special treatment with a vinyl drop to mark the moment.
With Jay-Z celebrating 30 years in hip-hop, the arrival of the original “Dead Presidents” on streaming wasn’t the only nod to his legacy. Roc Nation recently revealed on social media that his collaboration with Jaz-O and Amil, “N***a What, N***a Who (Originator 99),” has been spotlighted again on streaming platforms.
On top of that, Jay-Z rolled out a limited vinyl edition of the Vol.2… Hard Knock Life single through his 30th anniversary website. The release packs in the original track, the alternate “Jigga What, Jigga Who” version, “It’s Hot (Some Like It Hot),” “Come And Get Me,” both explicit and clean cuts of “Dirt Off Your Shoulder,” plus “The Bounce” and “F.U.T.W.”
There’s been some chatter about the announcement, as “N***a What, N***a Who (Originator 99)” already existed on streaming in some capacity, and the vinyl compilation pulls together a mix of tracks from different eras. Still, revisiting Hov alongside his mentor Jaz-O and Amil is always a win for longtime fans.
The vinyl move also signals that Roc Nation is leaning into a curated, archival vibe for Jay-Z’s 30th anniversary celebration. Either way, it’s the perfect excuse to spin this classic 1999 single from his 1998 album once again.

As exciting as the 30th anniversary rollout has been, there’s still no sign of a brand-new Jay-Z album — at least for now. Even though the campaign has sparked speculation, nothing official points to fresh music just yet. Of course, rumors never really die, so a surprise drop isn’t completely off the table.
What’s more likely is that the spotlight is building toward a major milestone: Reasonable Doubt turns 30 in June. That anniversary alone could anchor the entire celebration, possibly with a vinyl reissue, bonus material, or other commemorative releases.
Outside of the nostalgia wave, Jay-Z remains busy with his NFL partnership and his many other high-level business ventures. While longtime fans continue to hope for new tracks, each passing year introduces a new generation to his catalog. With these re-releases, even fewer listeners will be unfamiliar with his early classics.
