Rising artist Trim has been drawing plenty of comparisons to Nicki Minaj lately, and it seems the rap icon may not be too happy about it.
Nicki remains one of the most influential artists of her era, with many even considering her among the most impactful rappers of all time. Throughout the late 2010s, a wave of female rappers emerged, many of whom openly credited Nicki as a major inspiration after she broke barriers in hip hop.
Over the years, Nicki has also built one of the most loyal fanbases in music. The Barbz are known for fiercely defending her online and supporting her through every controversy and career moment.
But now, some fans appear upset after what’s being described as a recent unfollowing and blocking spree on X.
Several major Nicki fan accounts have claimed they were unfollowed or blocked after showing support for 19-year-old South Carolina artist Trim.
Trim has been gaining attention online due to similarities fans have pointed out between her and Nicki, including her vocal style, animated delivery, and bold fashion sense. Some listeners have also compared the young rapper to Doja Cat.
The Nicki Minaj fan pages allege that the unfollows and blocks happened shortly after they publicly praised Trim. The rising rapper recently took the stage at Rolling Loud, where her performance sparked mixed reactions online due to her still-developing stage presence. During the set, Trim openly admitted she is still evolving as an artist and continuing to learn.
In the post shared by Live Bitez, viewers should note that the first slide comes from an older video, while the remaining slides are reportedly tied to the current situation involving Nicki Minaj and some fan accounts.
For now, a number of Barbz appear disappointed and hurt by the situation. Whether Nicki eventually shows support for Trim or embraces the comparisons in the future remains unclear.
