Yung Miami has once again addressed the moment she publicly called out a DJ during a Miami White Party, admitting her reaction was out of character.
The City Girls rapper appeared on SiriusXM’s Hip Hop Nation on Tuesday (May 12), where host Gray Rizzy brought up the viral incident.
In a clip that circulated online from the White Party, Yung Miami walked up to the DJ booth, grabbed the microphone, and criticized the music being played.
“You gotta turn that bitch up,” she said during the moment.
Speaking on SiriusXM’s Hip Hop Nation, Yung Miami explained that she never intended to disrespect anyone and said she was simply trying to enjoy herself with friends.
“And I think looking back at it, it was very immature. It’s not what you do, it’s how you do it. And it was just—it was distasteful,” she admitted. “It wasn’t probably the right thing to do, but I just was in a moment where I’m just like, ‘OK, like I just want to have fun. I’m genuinely just ready to turn up.’”
“It wasn’t who I am. That’s not me,” Yung Miami added. “I’m a fun girl. I like to have fun. I didn’t do it with bad intentions neither. It wasn’t to hurt nobody or to make somebody feel bad or to disrespect nobody.”
The rapper also stressed how important DJs are to the culture and said everyone deserves appreciation and respect.
“And I think that like we all in our job field get criticized and go through things like that, you know? So it was just an honest mistake,” she explained.
The Florida rapper has also been facing criticism surrounding her recent solo music releases. During a recent appearance on Hot 97, she opened up about feeling pushed away from music altogether.
“I’m feel like I’m strong now to the point I can’t get broken. They done broke every bone in my body. I’m healed from that,” Yung Miami told Nessa Diab during the interview.
