Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s Son Maddox Reportedly Files to Drop ‘Pitt’ From His Last Name

Maddox has reportedly become the latest of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s children to distance himself from the Pitt surname.

According to TMZ, the 24-year-old has filed legal documents requesting that his name be changed from Maddox Chivan Jolie-Pitt to Maddox Chivan Jolie.

The move follows a change he has already made professionally. Maddox was credited as Maddox Jolie while working as an assistant director on his mother’s recent film Couture. His legal name change request is still awaiting approval.

He isn’t the first of the former couple’s children to drop “Pitt” from their name. Earlier this month, 21-year-old Zahara reportedly introduced herself as Zahara Marley Jolie during her graduation ceremony at Spelman College in Atlanta. In 2024, Shiloh filed paperwork to remove Pitt from her surname on her 18th birthday. That same year, Vivienne was listed as Vivienne Jolie in the Playbill for The Outsiders, a production she helped develop alongside her mother.

Jolie and Pitt officially finalized their divorce in December 2024, bringing an end to an eight-year legal battle. The former couple had been together for nearly a decade before marrying and remained married for two years before Jolie filed for divorce in September 2016, citing irreconcilable differences.

Their split led to years of legal disputes involving custody, finances, and shared assets. By 2019, both were legally declared single, though the divorce proceedings continued for several more years.

Speaking with Vogue in 2023, Jolie revealed that she and her children “had a lot of healing to do” following the separation. She and Pitt share six children: Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, Vivienne, and Knox. The three oldest children were adopted internationally before the couple expanded their family further.
