Madonna Says She’s No Longer Interested in Being Naked Because “Everyone” Is Doing It Now

Madonna is no longer interested in posing nude for the public.

In her new cover story for Interview Magazine, the music legend, who turns 68 in August, revealed that fans shouldn’t expect to see her stripping down anymore. Back in 1992, Madonna released Sex, a now out-of-print coffee table book featuring nude photographs of herself. The project accompanied her fifth studio album, Erotica, and also included provocative images of celebrities and models such as Big Daddy Kane, Naomi Campbell, and Vanilla Ice.

During the conversation, the Confessions II singer reflected on the criticism she faced throughout her career before explaining that there was a specific reason behind her once-provocative public image and willingness to push boundaries.

“Now I don’t want to be naked because everyone’s naked,” Madonna told Interview. “I want to do what people are not doing, which is thinking and wearing clothes.”

Elsewhere in the conversation, the pop superstar reflected on the criticism she has faced throughout her career, describing many of her detractors as “narrow-minded people who are ignorant, who judge first before investigating.” She also admitted that the public backlash she experienced in the past once affected her deeply.

On July 3, Madonna is set to release her fifteenth studio album, Confessions II, a follow-up to her acclaimed 2005 album Confessions on a Dance Floor. To promote the project, the singer partnered with LGBTQ-focused social networking platform Grindr for a special Pride Month takeover featuring exclusive content, including a limited-edition vinyl release and other app-exclusive offerings.
