A$AP Rocky appears to be fed up with the online chatter, using a recent concert to fire back at critics during an on-stage rant.
While performing on his Don’t Be Dumb tour, the Harlem rapper paused the show to address the wave of criticism that has followed him throughout the album rollout. He called out everything from rumors about his wardrobe and speculation over ticket sales to comments about his relationship with Rihanna.
“Fuck the internet,” Rocky told the crowd. “First they was saying n***a was wearing thongs, then they was saying n***as show wasn’t selling out, nobody wasn’t coming, then they saying I’m disrespectful to my wife. Suck my dick, n***a.”
It’s unclear which stop on the tour the rant came from, but it surfaced online just days after a viral photo led to speculation that A$AP Rocky was wearing thong underwear on stage.
His creative agency and record label, AWGE, quickly shut down the rumors on social media by showing off its own branded underwear line and suggesting fans had misidentified Rocky’s wireless microphone pack. “DONT BE DUMB YOU PLAYED YASELF. MISTOOK A MIC PACK. YOUR DUMBNESS IS OPPORTUNITY,” AWGE wrote.
Rocky’s comments about ticket sales also appeared to address online claims that his tour wasn’t attracting audiences. Despite the speculation, his Don’t Be Dumb tour has continued to draw strong crowds, with several dates reportedly selling out as he travels across the country.
His remarks about allegedly disrespecting Rihanna seem to reference another viral moment from a recent concert in Phoenix, Arizona.
While speaking to the audience between songs, Rocky joked, “Thank God y’all didn’t know me when I was single ’cause I would’ve fucked the shit out of you if you was pretty.”
The comment quickly made the rounds online, with some fans brushing it off as playful stage banter, while others questioned whether it was appropriate given his relationship with Rihanna, with whom he shares three children.
Despite the online criticism, Rihanna has remained one of Rocky’s biggest supporters throughout the Don’t Be Dumb tour. She has attended multiple shows and recently praised him while celebrating his Vibe magazine cover during the Knicks’ NBA Finals run.
“My baby daddy brought Vibe back,” she said while holding up the magazine. “The vibe has been lost. The vibe has been brought back… I fucked that n***a and I had his babies.”
