Amid his long-running Drake feud and the pressure of living up to eight years of anticipation, A$AP Rocky has been shutting out criticism with his well-received Don’t Be Dumb tour. Still, the backlash hasn’t fully died down, and his AWGE agency recently addressed it on Twitter.
This week, the agency posted a series of pointed messages, calling out what it described as silence from critics in the face of multiple sold-out shows and accusing some outlets of “SELECTIVE REPORTING” regarding the tour’s reception.
“FUNNY HOW QUIET IT GETS WHEN YOU SELL OUT ARENAS STATE TO STATE,” the agency tweeted on Thursday, July 2. They also reacted to Complex’s coverage with a brief quote-tweet: “DONT BE DUMB COMPLEX.” In another post, they clapped back at a fan who suggested Rocky needed a “professional social media manager,” replying, “YOU’RE HIRED DUMMIE.”
A$AP Rocky himself also addressed the criticism during a recent tour stop, venting about the online chatter surrounding him. “F**k the Internet. First they was saying the n***a was wearing thongs. Then they was saying n***a’s shows wasn’t selling out, nobody wasn’t coming. Then n***as saying I’m disrespectful to my wife. Suck my d**k, n***a.”
For those unaware, AWGE is A$AP Rocky’s creative agency and label. It dates back to 2014, but has grown far more visible in recent years as Rocky’s creative output and major projects have expanded. From brand partnerships and fashion ventures to social media responses like these “selective reporting” call-outs, AWGE now plays a key role in shaping the A$AP Mob leader’s public image.
Elsewhere, A$AP Rocky’s feud with Drake continues to linger. While it was never likely to fade quickly, the ICEMAN track “Burning Bridges” going viral has helped keep the tension in conversation.
For instance, Drake recently appeared at the Portugal vs. Croatia FIFA World Cup match in Toronto, performing the “Where she at?” celebration, but fans still managed to drag Rocky into the discussion despite the moment having nothing to do with him. Still, the Don’t Be Dumb tour offers Rocky a strong distraction from the ongoing chatter.
Meanwhile, AWGE has also been active on social media responding to fans repeatedly asking about a second disc or deluxe edition of Don’t Be Dumb, with its release still unconfirmed.
