Cardi B was among the performers at Essence Festival this weekend, with Latto also in attendance, but it wasn’t just the lineup that got people talking.
During her performance of “ErrTime,” Cardi appeared to change a lyric that originally referenced her Atlanta collaborator (“Bad yellow b***h, look like Latto in this motherf***er”).
Instead, she rapped, “Bad yellow b***h look like Bardi in this motherf***er,” and later added, “Bad brown b***h, look like Henny in this motherf**er,” according to clips shared by Livebitez on Instagram.
Fans have been speculating about a possible shift in energy between the two, especially after Latto’s recent diss toward Cardi B on her album Big Mama. That said, it’s still unclear whether the lyric change was intentional shade or simply a freestyle adjustment in the moment.
For now, the moment has only added more fuel to ongoing fan discussions, even as no direct confirmation of tension between the two has been made.
Still, what really raised eyebrows for fans is that Cardi B and Latto’s tension had seemed to cool off in recent months. Many believed both rappers had moved past the situation and were in a better place.
For context, the issue began after a leaked audio call surfaced of Cardi B referring to Latto as “p***y” over claims she was avoiding Ice Spice. Cardi later apologized once the clip went viral, and again after Latto appeared to address the situation on Big Mama.
“I was at an early stage of my pregnancy and I rushed to the studio to do this verse for her first week sales,” Latto later explained. “Literally like two days later, I’m seeing all over the internet I’m being called p***y. I’m pregnant, emotions tied. And it was someone I deada looked at as a friend… We was on a texting basis. I’m open to a conversation. When? I don’t know. It wasn’t a diss, it was where I was in life.”
