Rick Ross and Drake have created some of their biggest records together, but their once-close musical partnership has changed significantly over time. Still, despite their fallout surrounding the Kendrick Lamar feud, Ross says he continues to appreciate the work they made together and believes that history cannot be erased.
The Maybach Music Group boss addressed the situation during an appearance on The Joe Budden Podcast, where he pushed back against claims that his relationship with Drake was ever fake. As captured by Micah Jung Un on Twitter, Ross responded to Budden’s question about criticism he received for performing their collaborations despite their ongoing issues.
“No, you got to realize, anything that we created in the past, Rozay gon’ celebrate,” Ross said. “You understand? You can’t change the past, you control the future, you dictate all that. So anything we’ve ever created is celebrated. Yeah, we with that. We bosses. We don’t even care. Play all them n***as st. We ain’t on no he s**t. We rich n***as.”
Joe Budden later shared that he and many fans were “heartbroken” over the possibility of never hearing another major collaboration between the two artists. He questioned Ross about the disappointment surrounding their split as a duo.
“Y’all as a tandem and as a duo… Just on some making records s**t, what you two n***as were able to accomplish, what do you say to the n**as that are upset that they won’t hear that again, and they blame you?” Budden asked.
“I feel you, I feel you,” Ross responded. “Y’all n***as gon’ get over it. Trust me. You gon’ get over it. Trust me. Move on, get some lil’ bread, get this Set In Stone. Trust me. You gon’ say, ‘I feel it. Rozay was right.’”
Budden appeared disappointed by Ross’ response, but with no signs of reconciliation between the two artists, it seems fans may have to accept that their collaborative era could be behind them.
For those unfamiliar with the situation, Drake and Rick Ross’ feud started after Ross accused Drake of sending French Montana a cease-and-desist order. The two artists went back and forth with diss tracks, social media jabs, and, in Ross’ case, several comments during interviews and media appearances about their fallout and changing relationship.
While the “Lord Knows” collaborators may not be teaming up again anytime soon, Ross believes their past work still holds value and should not be overlooked.
