Years of music leaks have unfortunately become a common challenge for some of the biggest names in the industry. Now, Ariana Grande is taking the issue to court.
According to TMZ, the Grammy-winning singer has filed a lawsuit in California against a group of unidentified individuals she believes hacked into the digital accounts of creators connected to her projects. The lawsuit claims the alleged cyberattacks resulted in the theft of unreleased music, private photos, videos, and recordings that captured parts of her creative process.
Instead of addressing one isolated incident, Grande’s lawsuit describes what she says has been an ongoing issue throughout her career. She alleges that the people responsible repeatedly accessed confidential material without authorization before sharing or selling the content without her approval.
The lawsuit further alleges that the stolen files were being promoted and sold on the dark web for large sums of money, allowing others to profit from material that was never meant to be released publicly. Grande claims the leaks caused serious personal and professional harm by taking away her ability to control when and how her creative work was made available.
Since the identities of the alleged perpetrators are still unknown, the complaint lists up to 100 John Doe defendants. Beyond those accused of carrying out the hacks, the lawsuit also targets anyone who may have assisted in sharing, selling, or obtaining the stolen content. Grande is seeking to use the legal process to uncover those responsible and stop the material from continuing to spread.
