Tory Lanez will not be moving forward with a divorce while he remains incarcerated — at least for the foreseeable future.
In 2024, the rapper’s wife, Raina Chassagne, filed for divorce after about a year of marriage. However, TMZ reports that the case has now been dismissed after no progress was made in the proceedings over the past two years.
The couple tied the knot after Lanez, whose real name is Daystar Shemuel Shua Peterson, was convicted on multiple charges related to the 2020 shooting involving Megan Thee Stallion, allegations he has consistently denied.
Court records reveal that a Los Angeles judge dismissed the divorce case because neither party took steps to continue the process. In her filing, Chassagne cited irreconcilable differences and requested full custody of their son, Kai.
Despite filing for divorce, Chassagne has continued to support Lanez, bringing their son to visit him in prison on multiple occasions and sharing a Father’s Day tribute to him on Instagram last year.
In 2022, Lanez was found guilty on three felony charges connected to the shooting of Megan Thee Stallion and was sentenced to 10 years behind bars the following year. He was initially held at the California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi before being moved to the California Men’s Colony after being stabbed 14 times by another inmate due to safety concerns.
After the attack, Lanez filed a lawsuit against the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, accusing prison officials of showing “deliberate indifference to foreseeable violence.”
The rapper also claimed authorities knew the alleged attacker had a “violent history” and should not have been placed near someone with “high-profile celebrity status.”
Lanez is seeking $100 million in damages through the lawsuit, while the state of California is seeking to have the case dismissed.
