Busta Rhymes has offered fans a preview of what’s coming on the follow-up to his J Dilla collaboration project with the release of “Spazzz” — listen below.
On Thursday (August 6), the Conglomerate boss took to Instagram to announce the new track with the late producer, revealing that Dillagence 2 is “loading.”
Encouraging listeners to “take notes, study my shit” as he prepares to “reincarnate the boom bap,” Busta delivers bold and confident verses on the first preview from his upcoming Dilla collaboration project, which features several beat switches throughout the track.
The rap icon revealed on Tuesday (August 4) that Dillagence 2 was in the works, sharing an emotional Instagram video of Maureen “Ma Dukes” Yancey, J Dilla’s mother, listening to “Spazzz.”
Back in February, Busta hosted an exclusive listening event in New York City, where he announced that Dillagence 2 would follow the original Dillagence mixtape from 2007. The first installment, hosted by DJ Mick Boogie, featured Busta Rhymes and several guest artists delivering verses over J Dilla’s signature production.
While the complete tracklist has yet to be revealed, clips from the February listening session suggested that a collaboration with Lil Wayne could be included, adding to the excitement surrounding the project.
The upcoming release holds special meaning for Busta, as he and J Dilla built a strong creative bond during the early stages of Busta’s solo career. The two worked together on songs such as “Still Shining,” “Turn Me Up Some,” and “Show Me What You Got.”
Years after J Dilla’s death in 2006, Busta revealed that the legendary producer had left him a large collection of unreleased material.
“J Dilla left me with over 300 beats before he passed,” Busta told GQ in 2020. “I’ve always tried to represent and uphold the legacy of the late, great J Dilla… I think Dilla is probably top three best producers in the world.”
