Noel Clarke is facing six criminal charges involving five women, years after allegations of sexual misconduct brought his Doctor Who career to a standstill.
According to People, London’s Metropolitan Police announced on Wednesday, September 9, that Clarke has been charged with two counts of sexual assault, three counts of voyeurism, and one count of exposure. The alleged incidents reportedly occurred between 2007 and 2016, a period that coincided with some of the actor’s most successful years in television and film.
Police arrested Clarke in September 2025 as part of an investigation into the allegations. Detectives subsequently submitted an evidence file to the Crown Prosecution Service, which approved the six charges announced earlier today. The 50-year-old actor is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on October 21.
The charges mark the latest development in a controversy that first gained widespread attention in April 2021. At the time, The Guardian reported that 20 women who had worked with Clarke professionally accused him of sexual misconduct and bullying. Some of the allegations were linked to his time on Doctor Who. Clarke denied the claims, stating that he “vehemently” rejected the allegations of sexual misconduct.
Clarke responded to the reporting by taking Guardian News & Media to court over libel, but the legal battle ended in defeat. He lost the case in August 2025, just one month before police arrested him as part of the investigation that led to the new charges.
Before the allegations surfaced, Clarke had established himself as one of Britain’s best-known actors and filmmakers. He portrayed Mickey Smith, the boyfriend of Billie Piper’s Rose Tyler, during the early seasons of the revived Doctor Who. His run on the series saw him appear alongside both Christopher Eccleston and David Tennant between 2005 and 2010.
He also created, wrote, and starred in the Kidulthood film trilogy, which launched in 2006 and wrapped up with Brotherhood in 2016—the same year the alleged offenses reportedly ended. His other credits include Star Trek Into Darkness and the television series Bulletproof. In 2009, Clarke won the BAFTA Rising Star Award.
The five women involved in the criminal case have not been publicly identified by police. Detective Superintendent Mike Cagney said they “continue to receive support from specially trained officers” as the prosecution proceeds.
“We urge anyone who has been a victim of sexual assault to contact police,” Cagney said. “The information you provide will be dealt with in the utmost sensitivity, and we have trained investigators on hand to support you.”
