Rick Ross is facing legal trouble after being sued over two concerts he allegedly canceled.
On Tuesday (September 29), Omega14 Incorporated filed a lawsuit in Charlotte against the rapper, whose real name is William Leonard Roberts II, along with his touring company and Maybach Music Group.
The lawsuit focuses on the canceled Greensboro and Charlotte shows scheduled for August 28 and 29, which were supposed to serve as the final dates of the MMG rapper’s Port of Miami 20th Anniversary Orchestra Tour. According to Courthouse News, Omega14 is seeking $261,000 from Ross to cover costs and alleged lost revenue.
According to the agreement outlined in the filing, Ross was required to perform for at least one hour at each show. The promoter claims the contract only allowed cancellations in situations involving “severe injury or death.”
Omega14 alleges that Tawanda Roberts, Ross’ sister and an MMG manager, contacted the promoter around 1 P.M. on the day of the Greensboro performance to inform them that the rapper “refused to perform” that night, as well as the Charlotte show scheduled for the following evening.
At the time of the cancellations, the Charlotte show was reportedly close to selling out, while the Greensboro date had already sold a significant number of general admission and VIP tickets.
The promoter’s most serious claim centers around Ross’ whereabouts. Omega14 alleges that while he was scheduled to perform in North Carolina, he instead performed shows in Orlando and Miami Beach on those same dates.
The lawsuit accuses Rick Ross and the other defendants of engaging in conduct that was “unethical, unscrupulous, and substantially injurious to consumers and businesses including but not limited to plaintiff, the numerous orchestral musicians, choir members and venue operators.”
The August 28 performance at the Steven Tanger Center in Greensboro and the August 29 show at the Belk Theater in Charlotte were both canceled, resulting in automatic refunds for ticket buyers.
After news of the canceled dates spread online, 50 Cent, Ross’ longtime rival, took to Instagram to mock the Miami rapper. “oh my goodness cancelled, things not going well? cheer up you can drop a new flavor wings. LOL,” he wrote.
