50 Cent has been making the rounds to promote the upcoming Street Fighter movie while reflecting on some of his previous projects. During the press run, he made it clear that he has no interest in working with ‘Power’ creator and showrunner Courtney Kemp again, and his latest comments suggest there’s more to their fallout than fans initially realized.
50 Cent accused Kemp of downplaying his contributions to the show’s creation and success, mismanaging budgets, and being unreceptive to different ideas. During an interview with Variety, the publication reached out to Kemp for a response.
“While 50’s recollection of budgets and production requirements is uninformed, as he was rarely in a budget meeting, I have never once understated his importance in the genesis of Power,” she stated. “While he did not write nor create the series, he was a large part of its birth. That said, I am completely bewildered by his need to mention me in interviews or podcasts. I have completely moved on in my career, and I hope that the imminent success of Street Fighter allows him to do the same.”
50 Cent later caught wind of Kemp’s response and addressed it on Instagram on Sunday, October 18.
“Wow Variety ask me who I wasn’t looking forward to working with again so I said Courtney. I thought I was being nice I didn’t even mention her sleeping with cast and crew members,” he wrote.
It remains to be seen whether Courtney Kemp will respond to these seemingly casual but serious allegations. One thing is clear: the once-strong working relationship between the two has fallen apart.
Back in 2018, when Power was arguably enjoying its greatest wave of popularity and critical acclaim, 50 Cent publicly praised Courtney Kemp. However, as the show and its extended universe have continued to expand, the rift between them appears increasingly difficult to repair.
Of course, 50 Cent typically directs his online trolling at figures more closely connected to hip-hop. Still, there’s a chance this situation could develop into a more public online feud.
Regardless, it’s unfortunate to see the two creatives reach this point. Fif’s latest comment made things personal, and Courtney Kemp is unlikely to appreciate him bringing gossip into their ongoing dispute.
