Chris Brown and Meek Mill support shorter sentences for inmates working as firefighters.

Chris Brown thinks LA inmates battling wildfires deserve time off their sentences.

The R&B star hit up Instagram Stories to share his thoughts on those protecting Los Angeles from the flames. Breezy says the city needs to show love to everyone helping out – especially suggesting inmates putting their lives on the line should get shorter sentences.

“LA…Make sure yall throw a ceremony or parade for these firefighters and first responders after this. Also, the prisoners who were out there risking their lives need time knocked off their sentences. Just saying,” Brown posted.

Meek Mill backed Brown’s take, sharing it on X with an enthusiastic “Most definitely!”

California has over 900 inmates among its 7,500-strong firefighting force battling the nation’s worst wildfires. This isn’t new – California’s been putting inmates on fire lines since 1915.

The program really took off after WWII when inmates stepped in for soldiers who’d gone to war. They learned firefighting skills at conservation camps. Now, California runs 35 of these camps. The Department of Corrections says inmates choose to join and earn between $5.80 and $10.24 daily, with extra pay during emergencies.
