Adele Says Her Old $7 Million Home Had Ghosts, Owner Claims It’s Scaring Off Buyers

Pop star Adele’s former rental property in West Sussex has reportedly become unsellable due to her public comments about the estate being haunted, according to the current property owner.

The Times reports that Adele resided in the 10-bedroom estate called the Lock House in 2012. During an interview with Anderson Cooper that year, she stated that it was “all quite scary, really.” The singer allegedly also mentioned hiring a female bodyguard after experiencing strange noises on the property.

In planning documents obtained by The Times, the current owner Nicholas Sutton claims that Adele’s remarks “negatively impacted future marketing efforts and continues to affect the property’s reputation to this day.”

The luxurious $7,400,000 mansion boasts impressive features, including seven en suite bedrooms, an indoor swimming pool, a guest cottage, an in-ground swimming pool, a tennis court, and extensive gardens.

Sutton is now attempting to convert the property into apartments and has submitted a planning application to the local district council. He revealed that the home has remained unsold for 14 years, with only one offer received in August 2020.

According to Sutton, the potential sale collapsed after the buyer learned “about the property’s supposed haunted status, which was publicly mentioned by Adele during her tenancy.”

The mansion has significant historical significance, having been constructed in 1909. In 1971, it was sold as 26 separate lots, with a church subsequently purchasing the property and converting it into a convent. Sutton reportedly acquired the home in 2003.
