The Weeknd stunned everyone with an unexpected Grammys comeback at Sunday night’s 2025 show.
Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr. kicked things off by addressing Abel’s previous beef with the awards, before the Hurry Up Tomorrow star launched into “Cry For Me.” He then cranked up the energy by bringing out Playboi Carti for a mind-blowing performance of “Timeless.”
Remember when Abel dropped that bombshell in March 2021, telling the New York Times he was pulling the plug on letting his label submit his music for Grammy consideration? He was fuming about these “secret committees,” especially after After Hours got zero love despite being a massive hit. Mason jumped in quick to say they were “constantly evolving.”
Back in 2020, Abel didn’t hold back, blasting the Grammys as “corrupt” on Twitter and demanding some real transparency for his fans and the industry. But looking at Mason’s words Sunday night and The Weeknd’s surprise appearance, seems like they’ve buried the hatchet.
And let’s not forget – The Weeknd wasn’t the only one with Grammy beef. Earlier in 2020, Ye made waves when he posted that wild video where he seemed to be taking a leak on one of his 24 Grammy awards.
