Janelle Monáe didn’t hold back about Nelly after his controversial Trump inauguration show in January.
Following the Grammys on Sunday night, Monáe hit up Anderson .Paak’s spot, Andy’s, where they both jumped on stage to jam. When the band kicked into Nelly’s “Hot in Herre,” Monáe let loose with her real feelings about his Trump gig.
“Fuck you Nelly,” she fired off in a clip TMZ caught.
“I used to like Nelly … but then he performed for Donald Trump. Fuck that na. I don’t give a fuck … Nelly, you sold out. I used to think he was cool, but now you look like a motherfucking fool … Fuck you na. You get a new attitude.”
Before the big event, Nelly claimed doing Trump’s inauguration was an “honor.”
“If you follow what I do, this shouldn’t even be an argument,” Nelly explained to podcaster Willie D in January. “He’s the president. He won. This isn’t a campaign—this isn’t the RNC.”
Nelly insisted he didn’t do it “for money” and talked about respecting the presidency itself. “It don’t matter who is in office,” he said. “The same way that our men and women, our brothers and sisters, who protect this country, have to go to war and put their lives on the line for whoever is in office. If they can put their life on the line for whoever’s in office, I can damn sure perform.”
