The hit track “Tweaker” is experiencing a fresh surge of success.
One month since dropping, the sports star who switched to rap brought out a new version featuring Lil Wayne.
“Weezy F., and the F is for features, baby,” flows the legendary New Orleans rapper. “I went from the bleachers, baby, to beaches, baby/To each his own, gotta own, I can’t lease it, baby/I’m beastin’, baby, I beast like I’m obese and lazy/ And if they sleepin’ on a GOAT, they countin’ sheep then, baby.”
In a recent chat with Billboard, Gelo — whose real name is LiAngelo Ball — shared his thoughts about working with Weezy.
“That’s like hooping with [Michael] Jordan,” he told the outlet. “He back on that Dedication type of sound. That boy was flowing… I didn’t connect with him until my managers and them showed me his song. I hit him up on the ‘Gram like, ‘Your verse is hard as hell. That’s what we was missing on our sh*t.’ He was a cool dude. He was like, ‘I hope you mess with the verse.’ That verse is tough.”
During a Thursday night livestream with Plaqueboymax, Gelo gave fans a sneak peek of his upcoming song “Can You Please?”
“Tweaker,” crafted by KUNICA and Glockiecheez, stands as 2025’s first breakout hip-hop track, climbing into Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs Top 10 and reaching No. 29 on the Hot 100. Speaking to Billboard, he admitted the track’s viral explosion took him by surprise, but he’s certain his upcoming releases will make an even bigger impact.
“I’m ready to get stuff moving now,” revealed Gelo, who inked a deal with Def Jam this year. “I got some songs to put together for y’all… I like some of my songs better than ‘Tweaker’ … I think y’all gonna like ’em more, too.”
His next drop will be “Can You Please?” which he says brings something fresh to the table. It’s not yet clear if these 2025 tracks are solo releases or pieces of a bigger project that’s coming soon.
“Be expecting an album soon,” he shared with the outlet. “Me, personally, I feel like I’m done. I gotta make three more songs. I gotta make songs for fun right now. I could put out an album. It’s not for fun, it’s very official. I could put an album together right now, but I still want to touch up some things, put some new songs, get some features going.”
When “Tweaker” first dropped, both Boosie Badazz and Moneybagg Yo showed interest in jumping on the remix. However, Lil Wayne ended up being the only feature on the official remix.
You can catch the Weezy-enhanced “Tweaker” remix on Apple Music and Spotify.
