David Johnson Hints at Collaboration on Frank Ocean’s First Film: ‘He’s a Very Special Person’

At the Bafta Awards this Sunday, David Johnson couldn’t help but gush about his collaboration with Frank Ocean on the musician’s first film venture. “He’s a very special person, and we’re working on a really special thing,” spilled Johnson about the upcoming project.

Fresh off the press, Variety revealed last month that Jonsson is set to lead Ocean’s mystery project, which kicked off filming in Mexico City. The whole thing’s been kept super hush-hush – from who else is in it to what it’s even about.

Johnson’s been on fire since he burst onto the scene in the 2023 feel-good hit Rye Lane. He’s been crushing it ever since, showing up in Fede Álvarez’s Alien: Romulus and the edge-of-your-seat Bonhoeffer. Up next, he’s locked in for Stephen King’s The Long Walk and Wasteman, where he’s not just acting but also wearing the executive producer hat.

Word about Ocean stepping into the director’s chair has been floating around since 2022. While there’s been buzz about talks with A24 and 2AM, plus whispers about Bones and All star Taylor Russell joining the cast, nothing’s been officially confirmed about her role yet.
