Turns out Lizzo, SZA, and a mystery third artist almost cooked up a rock band together.
Lizzo spilled the beans during a Valentine’s Day Twitch stream, talking about her tight bond with SZA and how the SOS track “F2F” almost became part of their rock dream.
“We’ve just always been friends, and it’s a sacred space for me in this industry,” Lizzo shared, as reported by People. “We got this little period of time where we were just linking up in the studio, and eating pasta and drinking.”
The band’s name? “Pussy Lasers” – and they had “an incredible other artist” lined up to join them, though Lizzo kept that name under wraps.
Lizzo dished about the making of “F2F,” revealing how SZA freestyled “the whole fucking song,” minus her “mumble verse.”
“After that, I thought about that song all the time,” Lizzo added. “I was just like, ‘I hope, I hope she puts it on the album. And then one day out of the blue she just texted me the finished version and I was just like, ‘And this is why you’re the GOAT.'”
Speaking on SZA, who she’s rolled with since 2013, Lizzo gushed that the LANA creator “writes the craziest, most insane shit that you’re thinking and feeling.”
“But she just finds a way to say it, and she sings it so beautifully out the gate, out of her mouth the first time,” Lizzo added.
While these two besties have been tight for years, their friendship hit another level at the 2024 Grammys when SZA shouted out their journey while snagging the Grammy for Best R&B Song.
