Abel Tesfaye – you might know him as The Weeknd (at least for now) – is spilling his secret weapon against stress.
Chatting in his latest Complex cover story, Abel’s all about his new favorite thing: perfectly timed power naps.
“I’ve been fond of taking naps recently,” he said, as seen in the full cover story here. “Astronaut naps. 26 minutes. Turn the whole world off. Turn all the lights off and put your alarm to 26 minutes exactly. No more or less. Works like magic.”
So NASA’s got the science to back up Abel’s magic number – 26 minutes really is the sweet spot for the perfect nap. The space agency’s research shows it’ll boost your focus and performance, but you’ve gotta stick to the rules: don’t sleep too long or too late in the day, or you’ll mess up the whole thing.
And here’s the cool part – if you’re getting your regular nighttime sleep too, these power naps can actually juice up your creative flow. Kind of like Transcendental Meditation, which Abel might’ve been nodding to when he got Jim Carrey on his 2022 album Dawn FM.
Speaking of The Weeknd’s moves, he dropped Hurry Up Tomorrow in January to wrap up his trilogy. The movie version’s hitting theaters in May with Abel starring alongside Jenna Ortega and Barry Keoghan.
