Air travel just took another PR hit as a couple was forced to sit next to a dead body during their entire Qatar Airways flight.
TMZ reports that Mitchell Ring and Jennifer Colin were flying from Melbourne, Australia to Venice, Italy via Doha, Qatar when a woman collapsed in the aisle and died mid-flight.
The pair recently told A Current Affair about their experience, saying the woman’s body was placed right next to them and they weren’t given any options to move seats for the remainder of the long journey.
While Colin lucked out and got offered a free spot beside another passenger, Mitchell was asked to shift over one seat so the woman’s body could be placed in his assigned seat.
Making matters worse, passengers were told to stay in their seats at the flight’s end while medical staff removed the body.
Qatar Airways has since issued an apology: “First and foremost our thoughts are with the family of the passenger who sadly passed away on board our flight. We apologise for any inconvenience or distress this incident may have caused, and are in the process of contacting passengers in line with our policies and procedures.”
This corpse-on-a-plane incident follows the scary runway accident in Toronto on Delta Connection Flight 4819. That plane, carrying 76 passengers and four crew members, flipped over while landing at Toronto Pearson International Airport.
After that accident, Delta Airlines confirmed it was giving each passenger $30,000 for their troubles.
