On her new show, Tia Mowry: My Next Act, the actress sat down with her former Sister, Sister co-star Jackeé Harry for some girl talk about post-divorce dating.
In the clip below, Mowry, 46, contemplated dating again after her 2023 divorce from actor Cory Hardict, 45. The ex-spouses were married for 15 years and share two children, Cree, 13, and Cairo, 6.
“You had told me that you can’t have everything in life,” Mowry tearfully told Harry, who played her mother, Lisa, on Sister, Sister.
“Not all at once,” Harry– who was formerly married to hairstylist Elgin Charles from 1996 to 2003 – continued.
“I told you I had it for three years in my career, in my lifetime, I had it all. I had a man, the kid and the money. Yeah, and it was all working and then it all went to shit,” Harry admitted.
“It was phenomenal. I had support. I had nannies. I had beach boys. I mean, I had it all, but you can’t have it all all the time. Somebody’s got to stay home with the kids or nurture the ego of the man. […] Do I sound bitter?”
In a confessional scene, Mowry shared that “working, being a mother and just putting a lot of effort into dating right now is a lot to juggle and balance.”
She continued, “And I can’t help but wonder if I am repeating the same mistake now.”
“I don’t know if you know, but when you were having that conversation with me, that’s when I was actually, I was like just smiling through it all. In the back of my head,” Mowry told Harry. “I was [like], ‘Fuck, is she in my head right now? I was already having questions about my marriage, but you didn’t know.”
Harry agreed, but added that she “did know from the ‘other side.'”
“If I might say, somebody else was dissatisfied that they weren’t working,” Harry continued.
“One partner makes more money or has more success is a gap that is so hard and they can’t work. You can’t have competition. It just does not work.”
“You can’t stop your career because you want to even it out,” Harry said, adding that she didn’t “dislike” Hardict. “But I already told him. I said, ‘I’m on Tia’s side.’ I know you gotta choose sides when there’s a divorce. I don’t want him to feel bad.”
Both Mowry and Hardict have publicly spoken about how they’ve learned to healthily co-parent their children, while Mowry has shared that she “never dated” before meeting her ex-husband.
“I wasn’t even allowed to date until I was eighteen years old,” Mowry said in a confessional scene of her reality show. “I met Cory when I turned twenty and I lost my virginity at twenty-five. There, I said it! And then we got married! Boom!”
