Bill Murray and Kelis were never an item, but he claims the rumors helped his image.
“I got a great press that I was dating her, which really raised my cred a lot,” the Ghostbusters actor revealed during a recent appearance on SiriusXM’s Sway in the Morning. “That particular song, Ol’ Dirty Bastard, that song just kills me I love that video. I watched, I kept going, ‘That’s the silliest thing. How did I miss that when it came out in the first place?'”
Of course, Murray was talking about ODB and Kelis’ 1999 hit “Got Your Money.” “It’s so crazy, and I’m going, ‘Who is the girl with the red hair’?” Murray added. “I just had to meet her sometime. So she turns out to be spectacular.”
Murray mentioned he recently spoke with Kelis, who bought land in Kenya. “She is not afraid of the dark. She just goes out there and goes, ‘Well, I think I’ll just go to Africa and start a farm,'” he said.
While Murray denied dating Kelis, he joked that, “One of us could be on the rebound any second,” adding she “might need a plow man.”
The Murray-Kelis rumors started in 2023 when they were spotted together in London.
Interestingly, Kelis caught Murray’s eye the same way she attracted her first husband, Nas, who noticed her in the “Caught Out There” video before meeting her in 2002. Nas and Kelis married in 2005 and divorced five years later. They have a 16-year-old son.
Kelis’ second husband, Mike Mora, died from stomach cancer in 2022 at age 37. They had two children together, Shepherd and Galilee.
Murray, divorced twice, has six adult children.
